OMG!!! Yes, I know I said I was going to try to do an avatar fanart, but I couldn't resist posting this one. And even for this I didn't get around to coloring half of it. The hilt's supposed match the rest of her outfit. So yeah! Backstory!! ^_^ (Warnin: I may make a sketchy comic out of this later.)
Ties to canon: Former wife of Shan Yu
Summary: In a fictional Mulan 3, Mulan and Shang now have their own infant kid. They are summoned to the palace and bring their child with them. The emperor has a new task for Mulan. Since the defeat of Shan Yu two years ago, the Mongols have been regrouping. They have sent Tolui, the former wife of Shan Yu to negotiate peace with a few bodyguards for her support.
Tolui is young and pretty and therefore trustworthy under Disney canon. She also first appears dressed in Chinese clothing to emphasize the pretty and fitting in part. Tolui also angsts about how evil Shan Yu used to be. Mulan was sent for because she too is a woman and therefore might help the negotiations run smoother. Tolui wins Mulan's trust and then begins to carry out her plot.
Yes, like I said, Tolui is a villainess and bitter at her husband's death because she actually loved him and just said otherwise to gain their trust. She tries to assassinate the emperor and go along the same path as her old husband. But along the way she screws up and, determined not to leave empty handed, grabs Mulan's baby as she makes her escape.
Tolui escapes into Mongol territory and Mulan and Shang are faced with a horrible decision. Leave their child with Tolui or venture into Mongol territory to try and get her back.
